David Bruce McMahan is involved in community philanthropies on a regular basis. Recent efforts have included the donation of a playground and the use of the McMahan Securities jet to provide relief to hurricane Katrina victims.

In August 2005, Hurricane Katrina left thousands of people in Biloxi, Mississippi in urgent need of medical care. Brian Swirsky, a New Haven CT cardiologist, along with his wife and his developer friend Henry Criscuolo, put together a team of six doctors and Criscuolo and fly to New Orleans. Financier David Bruce McMahan provided the private jet.
