The experience of raising a daughter with cerebral palsy led David McMahan to take his first serious steps into philanthropy. In 1985 he founded the National Cristina Foundation, in honor of his daughter Cristina, born in 1970. Cristina is now a spokesperson for the foundation.

In the years since it's inception the National Cristina Foundation has helped thousands of people all over the world. And David McMahan has built on the success of his first philanthropy by establishing the McMahan Center Abilities Activists Foundation, which has helped a village of landmine survivors in Cambodia rebuild their lives and is bringing computers and technical training to community centers in impoverished neighborhoods all over Brazil.

David McMahan has also helped other philanthropic efforts, from supporting the first response of a group of Connecticut doctors to Hurricane Katrina, to supporting an after-school program for kids at risk in Argentina, to building a playground in his own community.
