Esteban McMahan received his BA in International Business from James Madison University in 1986.
He served in the US Army for 4 years. He began as a Medical Platoon Leader for a Light Infantry Battallion, earning his combat badge during Operation Just Cause in Panama. He was promoted to Captain, and his next assignment was as the Adjutant for the same battallion. After the Army, he worked at Bear Stearns in NYC as a trader of international equities for 7 years, and in 1997 moved to Chapel Hill and began his career as an international trader.
He is the Vice-Chair for El Centro Latino (www.elcentrolatino.org), is on the Advisory Board for Carolina for Kibera (cfk.unc.edu), and has been a mentor/advocate for the Blue Ribbon Mentor Advocate Program for 8 years (www.chccs.k12.nc.us/brma).
Esteban and Dana received the 2006 Citizens of the Year Award from the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce's Foundation for a Sustainable Community.

Esteban and Dana are also involved with the Orange County Habitat for Humanity (www.orangehabitat.org/pdfs/newsletters/Fall06.pdf), and the Family House (www.familyhouseatunch.org)
He has summitted Mt. Rainier 3 times, has run with the bulls in Pamplona, loves to cook, and has competed in sprint triathlons.
